Annenberg Center Debut

Ukulele meets rock (and jazz, classical, bluegrass and folk) in the lightning-fast fretwork of Jake Shimabukuro. His breakout cover of George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” hit YouTube 10 years ago and has since gained over 14 million views. Shimabukuro’s sophisticated arrangements and revolutionary techniques redefined the musical possibilities of the ukulele, drawing comparisons to innovators Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen and Miles Davis. He wears this virtuosity lightly, his calm, laid-back style is pure Hawaii. But the way he plays makes major waves.
