A group of spelunking West Virginian teenagers discover a Bat Boy near Hope Falls. For lack of a better solution, the sheriff brings him to the local veterinarian, Dr. Parkers, home, where he begins to assimilate to human life and become a part of the Parker family while trying to keep his penchant for sucking human blood under control. Bat Boy, Edgar, proves to be a kind and wonderful guy. But meanwhile, all the cows and some children in the village have been dying...
Will the village accept him? And how did a Bat Boy even come to exist? With a beat-driven rock score, hilarious and witty script and many plot twists, Bat Boy provides a compelling theatrical metaphor for the dangers of prejudice, intolerance and provincialism. The audience that walked into the theater expecting to see a bubblegum musical with little substance leaves feeling unexpectedly affected. Theyve taken in a story that has shocked them, made them laugh, made them feel something and just maybe, theyll gain an appreciation for the journey theyre on, and celebrate their low moments from which they may later grow.
