All ages

A trip down musical memory lane to show how signature Motown sounds emanated from the soul and style of jazz. With hits by the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, the Four Tops and more, the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble makes connections between the music and the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Plus, the rudiments of music are brought to life with colorful metaphors and real-life connections (e.g. harmony as a way of living and a way of playing music).

Curriculum Connections: Elements and principles of music; Critical and aesthetic response to music; U.S. history (Civil Rights Movement); U.S. geography
